Invisalign orthodontics is a revolutionary solution to a common problem: misalignment of the teeth. Dr. Ken Poznikoff and his in-office orthodontist, Dr. Claude Boutin, help patients align their smiles without metal bracket-and-wire braces. Instead, we recommend Invisalign to many of our patients in Drumheller, Alberta, and can help individuals determine if they are candidates for this treatment.
What is the process of getting Invisalign aligner trays?
- Initial evaluation and candidacy review. The Invisalign process starts with an evaluation to determine if a local patient is a proper candidate. Our doctors find the best patients for this treatment are those who have mild to moderate teeth misalignment.
- Treatment plan and preparation. After the initial evaluation, a customized treatment plan is created for each patient. This plan includes digital impressions of the teeth and a 3D projection of the final results. These images are used for creating a series of custom-made aligner trays.
- Receipt of Invisalign trays. Once the trays are ready, the patient will receive their first set and be instructed on how to wear them, when to change them, and how to maintain their oral hygiene. This part of the process also ensures that the trays fit properly and function at their best. The patient will also schedule follow-up appointments for progress check-ups.
- Progress check-ups. After the first set of aligner trays have been worn for approximately two weeks, patients should notice that their teeth are slightly shifting into place. This is a good sign that the treatment is working as expected and that the patient is complying with their treatment. Our doctors will schedule regular check-ups to monitor the progress and make any necessary adjustments or changes to the tray series or timeline.
- Wearing and changing aligner trays. The length of time needed for Invisalign treatment varies depending on the severity of misalignment. On average, patients wear each set of aligner trays for one to two weeks before switching to the next set. By the time they reach their final set of trays, their smile will be aligned for proper function and aesthetics.
- Retainer. Patients graduate to a retainer once the final set of aligner trays has been worn. This is an essential step in maintaining the results achieved with Invisalign treatment. The retainer should be worn consistently as instructed by Dr. Claude Boutin to prevent the teeth from shifting back into their original position.
