You may have heard the term “sedation dentistry” but have been unsure about what it entails. Drumheller, Alberta, area patients who ask our dentists about sedation options often have many questions. This may include what sedation dentistry is and how it works to ensure a more positive experience for those with dental anxiety.
What methods of sedation are available at Riverside Dental Clinic?
Drs. Kenneth Poznikoff and Claude Boutin of Riverside Dental Clinic in Drumheller, Alberta, offer three sedation methods that put patients at ease during their dental visits. These include the following:
- Oral conscious sedation. One of our office’s most popular sedation methods is oral conscious sedation. Before your appointment, you will be prescribed a pill to take before arriving at the practice. You will need to arrange transportation, and when you arrive, you will already feel relaxed and at ease. We can perform the dental work while you are conscious and allow you to feel comfortable from start to finish
- IV sedation. IV sedation is the administration of a sedative through the bloodstream. It is delivered intravenously during the procedure. Our skilled professionals monitor the entire process to ensure efficiency and safety throughout
- General anesthesia. For more complex procedures, we understand that stronger sedation, such as general anesthesia, can help ease anxiety and allow our team to perform procedures quickly and efficiently. General anesthesia is similar to the type of anesthesia used for surgeries. It will require patients to have their medical histories reviewed to ensure it is safe to proceed with this method of sedation to have the necessary dental work completed
Which type of dental sedation is the best for me?
